iCloud Calendar

Connect iCloud Calendar with an app-specific password.

Apple doesn’t let other apps sign in to iCloud Calendar for you. Instead, you make a password just for Tempi. It takes two minutes, and you can revoke it any time.

Before you start

Your Apple Account needs two-factor authentication. Apple makes app-specific passwords only for accounts that have it. If yours doesn’t, turn it on from your iPhone, iPad or Mac first.

Your calendars need to be in iCloud. On your iPhone or Mac, check that Calendars is on in iCloud settings.

Make the password at Apple

  1. Go to https://account.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account.
  2. In Sign-In and Security, choose App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Choose Generate an app-specific password. When Apple asks for a name, type Tempi, so you know later what it’s for.
  4. Apple shows the new password. It looks like abcd-efgh-ijkl-mnop. Copy it now. Apple doesn’t show it again.

Connect it in Tempi

  1. In Tempi, open Calendars. Next to Apple iCloud Calendar, choose Connect.
  2. In Apple ID, type the email address of your Apple Account. In App-specific password, paste the password from Apple.
  3. Choose Connect iCloud. Tempi checks the password with Apple and finds your calendars.
  4. If it’s your first calendar, it becomes your booking calendar. Otherwise, choose Use for bookings next to it if you want new bookings to go there.

What Tempi reads and writes

Tempi reads when you’re busy on every iCloud calendar that holds events, so nobody can book those times. Events set to show as free don’t block time.

When iCloud is your booking calendar, Tempi adds each new booking to your main iCloud calendar. It moves the event when the booking moves, and deletes it when the booking is cancelled. Requests go on it once you approve them.

Tempi changes only the events it added. It stores the password encrypted and uses it only for your calendar.

Event types set to Google Meet get a Meet link only when Google Calendar is your booking calendar. With iCloud, use Zoom or your own meeting link.

Stop Tempi using it

  1. In Tempi, open Calendars and choose Disconnect. Tempi deletes the password. Events it already added stay on your calendar.
  2. At Apple, open App-Specific Passwords and choose Remove next to Tempi. Tempi can’t reach your calendar after that.

If it doesn’t connect

“CalDAV authentication failed.” Apple didn’t accept the email or the password. Tempi needs the app-specific password, not the password you sign in to Apple with. Check the email is your Apple Account’s, make a new password and try again.

No App-Specific Passwords at Apple? Your account may not have two-factor authentication yet. Turn it on, then look again.

“This Apple ID has no iCloud calendars for events.” Turn on Calendars in iCloud settings on your iPhone or Mac, then try again.

Reconnect needed, on the Calendars page. The password was removed at Apple, or you changed your Apple Account password, which revokes every app-specific password. Until you fix it, that calendar isn’t checked for conflicts. Make a new password and connect again with the same email.
